101 Gilbert St, Adelaide SA 5000
Opens at 11:00am
It's reassuring to know that it's five o'clock somewhere in the world. No need to feel guilty if you decide to pour that first glass a little earlier than is the social convention. Five O'Clock Somewhere, a tiny bar on Gilbert Street, Adelaide, is in the business of commercialising the phenomenon of early drinking. Well, maybe not, but they don't judge you if your saunter in at 10am after the meeting from hell and request a light refreshment of the grape variety.
Here's the kicker with this place. It's cosy and inviting, much like the cellar door it tries to be, and a bottle will set you back between $15-35 to drink-in. That's right, there is no corkage. You pay the same price to take away as you do to enjoy the bottle in the pleasant surroundings. Here's an idea: pop in toward the end of your day to get that final bit of work done, have a few glasses, and take the rest of the bottle home? Genius, no?
Not in the mood for a haze-enabler? They do fine coffee, beer, and soft drinks, and grazing plates if you're a bit peckish.
There is one power point along the wall as you walk in and free WiFi is available if you ask for the password nicely.
